Standardization of motor frame sizes creates the advantage that there are only a limited number of different flange dimensions and shaft diameters. IEC 60072 standardizes motor frame sizes for regions that use SI units. Regions that use imperial units work with NEMA standards (see next chapter Motor Designs).
Common IEC frame sizes are shown with example performance data (IE4) in the table below. The size number indicates the height of the center axis of the motor.
