4.2.2. Speed Control

A reduction or increase in performance via the fan speed n is preferable to any other possible method because of the smallest energy requirement, the reduction of flow losses, and for acoustic reasons. The potential of the fan can thus be optimally exploited up to its limit.Through a speed control, the system characteristic curve does not change in its steepness, but the operating point moves with the speed on the characteristic curve. Figure 4.2.2. shows two characteristic curves at different speeds I and II. Possibilities for speed control can be found in the chapter "Motor Technology".
